Deviant Art and Disney Concept Work

I've been busy on Deviant art recently, and I'm quite proud of that. I suppose I have uni to thank for it but never mind. My photography course has me taking pictures everywhere so I just need to keep up with the uploads, I think that's especially true when it comes to this blog. I always start to think about it and then forget to update, I need to sort myself out! So anyway, Deviant, there's some pretty cool pictures up there if I do say so myself. Quite a few of my local beach due to my new desire to take pictures of everything. Then again, I have borrowed a camera from Uni so I might as well use it to my full potential.
Anyway, I got onto here and started this update because I've recently decided I want to become an Imagineer for Disney, I think that would be so cool. Then when strolling through concept art on Google I came across some amazing pictures and one of them happened to lead me here. Thanks for that.
So with a new career in mind, though I'm hoping I will find a way to keep writing (something I desperatley need to start doing again, I think I've neglected my FanFiction account for too long now) and to keep desigining. Recently I've been designing costumes for my younger cousin who does freestyle dancing. I'm quite proud of them if I do say so myself :) Anyway, I'm off to do some more research and hopefully to write some more. Wish me luck!

Cosplays for October Expo 2012

I don't think I've ever been this prepared for Expo before but as we are now, there have actually been agreements on what people are cosplaying for the London MCM Expo this October. It's very exciting, even more so because I am getting to make quite a few of the cosplays, so people are relying on me. It also means that I can make sure we do our best and have some super cosplays!!

So far the cosplays are Kuroshitsuji: Ciel In Wonderland, Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland and Kigurumi's. I'm planning on making the White Queen for Alice while my sister wants to do Um, they're both very difficult costumes because of the sheer level of detail, so any tips would be much appreciated.
Until then I have to figure out how to make Undertaker's hat for the Mad Hatter from Ciel In Wonderland. I think it's gonna be really fun. If I get it right i'll make another blog post to share to help out others too :) After that it's all about glamming up my Kigu and making the other Wonderland costumes for Kuro, it should be fun!
Only 13 weeks to go!

My University Choice

So I chose Bath Spa University, Bath is a beautiful city with plenty of inspiration all around but the best part about them was that they were interested in students who were into modern designs and fresh ideas rather than simply relying on the history of Bath. I'm now waiting for my results to find out if I can do my course choise, a combination degree of Mixed Media Textiles and Creative Writing. I'm really looking forward to it, let's hope I get it!

I've also started to design some dance costumes that can be made and sold at our local dance competitions, as well I this I also manned the sweet stall. Go me! So anyway, I'm pretty proud of my designs, eventually I think they might end up on here :) As well as this I'm still designing my own things and I've started to gather people to do some more cosplays. I'm especially looking forward to the Ciel In Wonderland cosplay we have planned from the anime/manga Kuroshitsuji. I would suggest it to anyone if you don't know what I'm talking about. It's a great anime, I love the history that it incorporates while twisting it to suit the characters, especially that of Ciel. So yeah, go have a look at that :)

Update on Universities

I have some offers from my chosen Uni's, I hope others have had the same luck. Sadly though this doesn't mean my work is over with. Now I have to get those grades, I wish luck to all those who are having to revise, learn and resit exams like I am. Hopefully all of our time spend reading, learning and revising will help us get those all important grades. Good Luck!

Cruella De Vil

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Je9ZfezquCI

There's nothing better than remakes of songs if done right, and I for one love Selena Gomez's take on Cruella De Vil. One of the most iconic villains of all time and certainly one of Disney's most fearsome. She's also a great source of inspiration, as I have found doing my Interactive Media work. Maybe I'll upload some pictures later but for now, it's good just to enjoy this video with a clever mix of the original cartoon movie and new footage of Selena Gomez.

Interviews for University

So, with the textiles exam being over with, I'm glad to finally start focusing on my University Portfolio. I now have two interviews and the excitment, as well as the nerves, is sitting in. A lot of those in my year have similar interviews so I'm glad that I've got people to talk it over with, share ideas with and get pointers off. As well as that I have some reat teachers, one who was even the one to mention some helpful pointers about my portfolio.
Best work at the beginning. And then just let it all go downhill :3 Kidding, but she really did suggest to put your best work at the beginning and the end, not only is it a good first impression but it leaves a good lasting impression, especially when the unis will be interviewing thosands of students, it's good to be unique.
My media teacher also suggested that if your not sure what to wear, go smart. Its better to look over dressed than under dresed, it shows your really taking the interview seriously as well as putting effort into your appearance. Plus first impressions will last, they want someone who looks like they can be relied upon and do the work, not someone who just rolls out of bed.
I hope this was helpful to anone reading :)

A level Textiles Revision: Fibres, Yarns and Fabric Manufacture

So, I've began my revision, and what I've found really helpful is reading over some of the information and then writing yourself a list of questions about it or relating to it, all bulding on knowledge from A level for A2. Since I'm re-siting my first textiles exam it's definitley been helpful to have all of last years work and more detailed notes from this year.
Here's a few of my own revison questions, try them out and don't be afraid to leave comments below, happy revision :p

Fibre types:
What are the three main natural cellulose (plant) fibres?
Name all five synthetic fibres?
What are regenerated fibres?

Yarns:
What is Carding?
What are the two twist types and why are they important?
What is a fancy yarn?
Name one way of mixing fibres.

Fabric Manufacture:
Explain how a pile weave is made.
What kind of effects can be created with coloured yarns?
How are bonded fabrics made?

How do you find them? If you're unsure about some of the areas thats where you need to revise. I know that some people find this bit the easiest but I have to admit, I can find it tricky, I think that theres just a lot that goes into this and its easy to get mixed up.
Don't be afraid to share any of your own revision tips, I'd definitley love to know some that have been tried and worked, I know I need it :)
